I'm an instrumentalist that wishes he could sing, as well as a bit of a techno-geek, and I've wished for something similar to what you describe. It would be good for both vocal and instrumental music - I would love to have something that would help me learn to play in tune within various chords (so would my community band director!).

Something I use for its accompaniment features is SmartMusic from Coda Music (www.smartmusic.com). Under the hood, it is a midi player, but they supply a huge number of accompaniments for the standard solo literature, both vocal and instrumental. It also includes a tuner feature that plays back the correct pitch of the note you are playing/singing as well as providing a meter-style readout of pitch. I haven't looked into the vocal features much, but it my do some of what you want.
