  • A reader wrote to tell me that I am "MSG blind," (see my entry for July 14, 2008) which means that MSG does not affect my taste chemistry-and that people who are MSG blind are generally the people who react badly to the chemical. Alas, I can't find anything about this ( Read more... )

Yikes. Sometimes I just get lisdexic in odd ways. Fixed it--but I always cop to interesting typos, so for the benefit of late arrivers, I originally had "read-once write-many" in the Sandisk item, which sort of sounds like the Far Side calendars I used to flip over and scribble shopping lists on after they had expired.

The Sandisk part looks quite similar to an old Signetics design; the data sheets can be found at Jack Ganssle's embedded firmware site:

Can the computer somehow override the write-protect tab on a standard SD card mounted in a USB or IDE adapter? I've been playing with one of these, trying to boot a small Linux distro from write-protected SD, but haven't gotten too far.
