Wireless-Nada

I've been holding back on revising my 2004 book Jeff Duntemann's Wi-Fi Guide for almost two years now, hoping for finalization of the IEEE 802.11n spec. According to the wikipedia article, 802.11n uses both 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands. While I heartily agree that 2.4ghz is getting mighty crowded, what about 5ghz?

Also, I found this article which suggests that, when all is said and done, 802.11n is unlikely to operate at full speed where any "legacy" (802.11b/g) devices are.

Both interesting facts about 802.11n

The various ethernet-over-powerline type mechanisms will eventually run into some of the same collision issues that the wireless stuff runs into. You can get interference from equipment that's on the same transformer that you're on. Right now, you're probably in virgin territory.
