It's beyond ironic. I saw a recent comparison of MS Office to Open Office, and though it gave the prize to Open Office, it was moderately even handed. I put it that way because most such comparisons I have read between commercial and open apps lack any sense of balance.

Still, if the New Lotus Symphony corrects some of the deficiencies in Open Office, it may be the thing to push MS to make some needed improvements. It would be nice to see someone finally field a competitive product. Competition does breed quality, despite the aspersions cast by many of the denizens of /.
