OK I found a cute "userpic" of a bulldog running. However I get a size error when I try to upload it. It says only the first frame will Be used of animations

Live Journal requires userpics to be a maximum size of 100x100 pixels, and less than 40k.

Try this.

As for finding them, I see them on various journals and communities (and give credit where I can) and make some of my own. I'm not the best, but am happy to try to ship something up if you want.

Thanks, so bulldog is too big pixel wise [242 X 140] but is OK with the 40 K. I was only looking at the file size [19843 bytes] not pixels.
