A couple of weeks ago I got a thing in the mail from Netflix. It had my name printed inside and had a promotional code for one of those free trial memberships. I knew from past experience that trial memberships are available for new members only, but in the small print at the bottom it said they're available for first time and certain former ( Read more... )

It's their fault anyway. I'm pretty sure the way their website can tell if you're "new" or not references some combination or your name and the address. So if they're smart enough to reject you using the promocode, they ought to be smart enough to suppress you from that mailing list until August.

I'm sure they could, if they actually wanted to. She said straight out that they just send the mailing to anyone in their system, regardless of eligibility.

That's just lazy. And an invitation to having to honor it anyway. Stupid Netflix, spends millions on algorithms for recommendations but can't be bothered with clean lists. Yay you for making them suffer the consequences.
