I got a comment on an old LJ posting yesterday so the notification popped up in my email. I haven't been on LJ for ages so this was something of a surprise. And it also reminded me how much this site used to be helpful for me to release some frustration and get words out into the world without judgement. LJ is still alive, though it's not what it was before they pissed off much of fandom.

I still prefer it because you can actually have a conversation, though many are over at Tumblr for the pretty pictures. I am too, but it's like browsing the store windows and never stepping in.

It's been rolling around in my head for a while. I don't mind window shopping, and have found some new shows to watch as a result, but it often feels like fandom is a lot more "shallow" than it used to be. Nobody wants to talk unless they're of exactly like mind, and even then it's not much.

Though fandom is always changing, so I guess this is to be expected with the newer platforms available. At least no one has to risk printing their kinky fanzie at Kinko's anymore. :)

I know, I miss the days when LJ was the place to go for intelligent conversations as well as unbridled squee. There isn't really another place that's filling that void right now.

Yeah I'm on Goodreads as well, but ultimate irony, the librarian has no time to read so there aren't many updates. Between work, a toddler, and another baby coming life is busy busy busy!
