Does he think that women reproduce parthenogically, or something?

Edit: do you have a link for this? I want to put this on my own LJ.

Prenatal/Maternity care (never mind the cost of raising a child for 18 years) can cost $10,000 upward to $45,000 and beyond. So yeah, I can understand why people terminate pregnancies for financial reasons.

Do not get pregnant without maternity coverage; it will practically bankrupt you if you don't get an abortion.

That's shocking.

Another reason I'm grateful for my NHS.

My sister has two kids and no problems regarding costs during childbirth.

All covered.

It's simply unfair they should be penalized for something that doesn't happen to them. Except that's the whole premise of insurance, right? I pay car insurance whether I get in a wreck or not, and renters' insurance whether I get robbed or not, and I pay health insurance for other women whether I get pregnant or not.

If we assume Families are a Good Idea (which many Republicans get a lot of political mileage by saying) then we gotta get everyone up to speed on being responsible for making more of them. Otherwise we may end up like those quasi-socialist countries where we have to pay to get people to have babies at all. For The Children, people!!

Did you see this news? Apparently in some states, being a victim of domestic violence is considered "a preexisting condition." Sheesh.

"currently, women share a cost burden of covering standard services such as prostate cancer coverage and medication for men such as Viagra."

I didn't know this. You mean everyone pays for this through taxes or something, or it's like, if your husband needs it you better help pay?

I think they're mainly talking about insurance policies. Since both women and men buy insurance policies, women are sharing the cost burden for prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction. Just like men are sharing the cost burden for breast cancer and yeast infections. But yes, the exact same arguments apply to taxes when they're used for Medicare or other government-financed/assisted medical programs ( ... )

Basically, when you buy insurance you are paying into a huge huge huge pot of money. That money goes to insurance company profits, sure, but it also goes to the other patients ( ... )

What's a girl to do? *shrug*

A. Nothing.
B. Bitch about it on your blog.
C. Write a letter to the editor of a major newspaper.
D. Call/write your state and federal reps and let them know your position, organize/join protest rallies, email the President, donate to pro-health care organizations, hurl leave burning bags of shit at insurance company offices.

That's it, you have no other options.
