sorry, I'm late I'm surprised that you didn't like Faceless Ones much because I always thought it was one of the better serials from season four (which is in my eyes the weakest Second Doctor season, five is the best). But you're absolutely right about Ben&Polly's exit, it's so totally random that it's not funny. I also agree with you about the padding problem. I think it's a very frequent problem in the Second Doctor era. I mean, when I look at the episode list, I find almost all stories from season six two episodes too long (and I won't even mention The Krotons). It's a bit sad because the Second Doctor's Tardis teams were so great, it's a shame that they didn't get better stories.
I'm very excited to hear what you have to say about "Evil of the Daleks". I think it's one of the best Dalek stories in DW and one of the best Two serials.
Thanks so much for replying! It's wonderful to hear your thoughts. Ben and Polly's leaving always makes me so sad. They really deserved better. Thankfully, this would be the last really naff companion exit for a while.
I'm also excited to dive into "The Evil of the Daleks". It's one of my big favorites!
I absolutely ADORE your reviews. I'm gonna have to go back and make sure I've seen them all. I find myself agreeing with almost all of your opinions on these brilliant Second Doctor eps. And I am also really excited to read your take on EotD. Are you posting these reviews anywhere else? You really should. They might drum up more interest in Two, which seems to be my pet project of the moment. ;-)
Anyway, brilliant review. This also shocked me when I saw it for the first time:
I find it really sad, as Ben and Polly were lovely characters who worked well together - and their final scene is very abrupt, and rather unceremonious. It was quite odd. I was never particularly fond of either of them, but it still seemed strange. I mean we always knew that they were trying to get home, but unlike Victoria's departure which was an undercurrent of that entire serial, this one came out of no where. Very odd indeed. Did you ever watch the Myth Makers on Pat Troughton? Anneke Wills was so lovely in her interviews, it actually made me

My wonderful friend Alan is archiving them on his site: http://www.atlantagallifreyans.org/reviews2.htm
Anneke Wills is so lovely and always says the sweetest things about Pat; it tickled me to learn she secretly fancied him!
I'm hoping to have my review for "The Evil of the Daleks" up soon - with bonus screen caps!
