I was inspired by Mandy's recent post about Iran's stolen election to weigh in for myself on what's happening half a world away. These thoughts have been percolating for days, and I've had few people to share them with other than Michael and my dad.

Americans do have the right to assemble, but the US government denies any permits they need to do so in public if they deem it "threatening." (I think trying to overthrow the bankrupt government, sadly, falls into their category)

Sadly, yes, I'm sure that is "threatening" especially to career politicians. Obama's a start, but I personally think we need a clean slate in Washington--as in no more incumbents!--to really make a difference.

My point here is that America was founded on the spirit of "Live Free or Die" but these days seems more concerned with the spirit of "American Idol." It's frankly embarrassing.
