Houdini has gained magical powers since I got him back. *rolls eyes* Went to bed and just as I was finally getting to the sleeping part, something fell and woke me up. Went through all the various statements (no one is breaking in, they can't break in, windows and doors are all barred, no worries) then thinking well what the hell has the cat

That is impressive that he was able to get it open. Maybe he got a taste of outdoor life and wants that now.

And, why do you have bars on your windows?!

He's always scooted outside to sniff the air. He started out as a stray and I got him at 8 weeks and he's been a mostly indoor kitty since.

We all have bars on our windows and doors. It's standard here, even for non-embassy staffers. We also have walls surrounding our houses (nice thick walls) with supposedly anti-climb spikes (locals embed glass into their walls). I'm one of the few that have bars on all the windows and doors because I've got a townhouse type house and you could conceivably (as Houdini has proven a few times the stinker) hop from one roof to the next and then get in on the balconies. I just wish the grill work was such that I could open the windows and doors and not have to worry about Houdini getting out. Had that at the house I was squatting in. That was nice. Not so much here, but at least it's my house. :D
