Mine also respond to the television!!! It's hilarious when we have visitors. They don't expect it and really wonder what is going on.

You'd figure they'd fix that -- put a certain carrier wave into the commercial that Echo could filter out. Or just say 'echo' in the ad instead of the actual command name.

And I guess Echo owners didn't really think about their privacy and personal data security when they bought into Alexa. :p

Trust me there isn't anything important that Alexa has access to. Even if a human were to listen to data samples for voice quality analysis all they'd here are clips of me shouting at my Xbox to turn on or my amazingly observations on life.
