into the thick of it

Hello LJ. I'm going to... use you now. Like, regularly. I promise!

So, 23rd birthday, blowing tons of money on Pokemon collecting, blahblahblah. Things are going pretty good. :D I just feel a little poor.

I've been inspired by foureyedalien and some other sculptors from pkmncollectors to start sculpting! I bought $50 worth of Sculpey III (every colour I need--hopefully ( Read more... )

This looks awesome for your first try! Congrats! I do agree with your dad, those eyes look great!

Sculpting is a time investment, but I believe it is 100% worth it.
Do you have any xacto knives/razors or toothpicks? Those really help with picking dust out. Baby wipes also help tremendously- wiping your work area down with these should help on the dust pick up.

Thanks ; A ; I've considered getting some paints for small details, but I dunno, it's fun this way!

It really is, but it's so fun! I take a long time drawing too, so it's not like it's anything new. XD It's kind of discouraging when you really screw up though, especially if it was looking good before.

I was using toothpicks and, after this sculpture, mom gave me a really nice little super sharp curved knife that she never uses. It's great! I tried to pick as much of the dust out/smooth it out as I could, but after a while it was kind of pointless >__> if I hadn't dropped it it would've been okay. My next sculpture was dust-free!

Awww, that's so cute! It looks great! My first tries were all horrible. I think I'm using cheaper Sculpey ^^; It was the only stuff available at the time. You make me want to give it another go. :D

Awwwww. XD My first try was horrible too, but like I said, I just started over >__> This stuff was pretty pricey at the store-- $3.50 for a 2 ounce block (though I bought a big pack for $36), but I found an online store that ships for pretty cheap where they're $1.50, so I'll buy from there next time :D

Do it! :D I learned a lot from the little I've made... like, if you find you're warping your sculpture just by holding it and trying to shape another part, take a little break and let it cool off a little... it's harder to screw it up if it's more firm! And if it's the colored stuff, I find I have to rinse my fingers off in water after every colour, so I don't mix them XD I just had a cup with water and paper towell nearby.

Aww, thanks :D I would take them sooner, but I owe some people things first, and it'd be pretty assy of me to do stuff for others before those people's drawings were finished. So I'll pay my debts first!

I'm gonna try little chibi humans too. Did I friend you for Cookleta? It looks like I probably did! XD

;A;... You're inspired by me?

I'm glad I could inspire you. It makes me happy that I can make someone else do what I do. <3

I've actually been wanting to make a Rabite! Someone showed me a picture of one and I just thought it was the cutest thing. <3 I still haven't though. ;A; <33 You're awesome at sculpting already!

Can I friend you, so I can see what else you'll make? ;u;

Yesss~ If it wasn't for you, I'm sure I wouldn't have tried it out. You've made so many wonderful sculptures!

Getting the shape/face symmetrical was really hard @__@ oddly, the ears were really fast/easy. They also come in other cute colours. I kind of want to make a whole family! Thanks so much though ; A ; I put a lot of work into the little guy.

Of course! I meant to add you too, I've been checking your journal every day anyway XD /stalker

I already made a shiny Hitomoshi, I just have to edit the pics. :3 ... though I dropped him and broke off his candle flame, and have to super glue it back on. XD

Thanks so muuuch. <3 and I think I'm going to concentrate on this surprise figure for my friend--then on to more Pokemon!
