a girl i briefly dated out here is bisexual, and she told me all about it because a friend of hers was denied when he attempted to give blood. he is HIV negative but still couldnt. i was shocked and they told me all about the rules and i couldnt believe it. made me sick.

It's really disgusting and a horrible case of discrimination.

I oculd understand if this was still 1986 and people weren't educated on STDs and AIDS yet, but things have changed a lot in the last 20 years.

Things need to be updated.

i know.

i honestly dont understand why they still discriminate. HIV is also carried by straight people, but they narrow it down to those who have had male-male sex in their lifetime because according to them, people who have male-male sex are statistically more acecptable to HIV. they need to work on that too cause ive seen the stats, its not exactly true. again, stupid discrimination.

and it's even held against those who have had sex with someone who's had "man sex" or someone who's had sex with someone who's had sex with...

you get the point!

eh b'y....they're only hurtin' the people that need the blood in the end really. If someone's brave enuf to try to donate blood that's great...they shouldn't be given a hard time about it geez.

I know... because what about all the heterosexuals and females with insane needle phobias *cough cynnie cough* haha

They're willing to do something those people can't. yet they're being refused.

the funniest (and most painful thing of all) is that (and i dont know the real stats right off the top of my head) is that heterosexual females are now the fastest growing group of the population to acquire HIV.

heterosexual.

so, like, are they soon going to stop taking blood altogether?

for real? that's an interesting stat, Ceese.

They'll still take it, but only from heterosexual males who've never experimented, from people who have never suffered memory loss because of drinking, select farm animals and babies!

Another interesting point!!

I know no test is fail or error-proof, but if there are problems with them, shouldn't new ones be devised or extra rounds be added?

And many people have to wait more than a year after their piercing because they can't remember the date. To play it safe they've made people wait a year from when they went to donate and were refused.

Piercing techniques and the environment they're done in have changed a lot in the last 20 years! Most people don't get them done by drunk friends in their basment with an ice cube and a bar of soap anymore!
