Wow, this was excellently written but scary. I felt my insides clench at the thought of poor Sam trapped like that! D: And then the development of something like Stockholm Syndrome when the door is unlocked but Sam doesn't leave...he has come to believe that this is the way it should be(like a lot of people in real life whose SOs do things to them to break them and make them think they deserve what is happening). Nevertheless, I'm glad that you found a way to let Sam survive with Gene, even if it is twisted. :)

Thank you :) This is definitely the darkest type of fic I've written so I'm really glad the scary and twisty nature of it worked for you.

Oh, I love this!

It always warms my heart to see Gene care this much about Sam, but I got to admit it's scary in a rather delightful way to see Gene turn into the crazier one of the two. Just seeing that protective streak in him go into overdrive is great! It's particularly scary to see Sam accept the situation in the end, not leaving when he has the chance.
I would have been terrified as well if I were him and Gene didn't come for me for a week. Not just because I'd be scared of losing Gene, but if Gene decided never to come back, Sam would starve to death in the end!

Thankyou :) I'm really glad you liked even with scary crazy!Gene.

I agree... I think that to have Gene come every single day and then just stop suddenly would have been some of the worst emotional torture Sam could have been put under. Not only is there the fear of abandonment and being left to die but even being alone for so long (with the prospect of being alone forever)would drive you quietly mad.

Could Sam be schizophrenic ? juli33zoi August 17 2008, 16:59:19 UTC
First off, GREAT STORY ! Amazing, intense, a real mind bender, but still within the realm of possibility. After all, Gene doesn't strike me as the type who's very sophisticated re: mental illness & would probably see consulting a mental health specialist as the kiss of death for Sam's career as well as possibly a high risk of landing him in a hospital. I really don't think Gene is the type who would have much trust in doctors period ( ... )

wow thank you :)

I feel really bad because I only have a relatively short answer to your well thought out question.

Gene wants to keep Sam safe from all doctors and men in white coats period. His worst fear (whether reasonable or not)is that if he doesn't take care of Sam he'll be carted off somewhere and drugged up until he's completely ruined. You also have to remember that Sam is acting sane around Gene almost all of the time, it's just occasionally that he says and does things that make Gene worry what would happen if other people (who weren't willing to overlook it) saw him. Gene doesn't want to change Sam, just protect him.

Also there have been qutie a few (brilliant)stories where Sam has been diagnozed with schizophrenia I can't think of the names atm(sorry!) but try browsing the rec list over at lifein1973 ;)

Holding him close, Gene whispered reassurances while inside his heart broke with the knowledge that Sam was ill.

This was creepy, sweet, and haunting, and I really adored it. I thought it was going to be standard 'coming to terms with love' story, so I loved that you took it in an unexpected direction.

Also, the idea of Sam escaping to buy a book and then willingly going back to captivity is both heartbreaking and kind of funny.

Thank you :)

I'm really happy you picked up on the fact that Sam did actually leave but made the choice to come back.
