[moving day - for thatsbuddies]

When Ray woke up and realized that it was moving day, he wasn't sure if he wanted to stay in bed and ignore it or jump up like it was Christmas morning and he was ten years old again. It was weird to think that in a few hours, he wouldn't live in the house that was left to him ( Read more... )

Ray got to the Vecchio's right on time, which was kind of a miracle. But he knew, he knew Vecchio was going to be in a pissy mood, and while it was inevitable Ray was going to do something to annoy the fuck out of him eventually, he thought he'd try to prolong that as long as possible.

It was just that he was pretty sure Vecchio was going to tense and really touchy, and Ray annoyed him even when Vecchio was relaxed, so. There was really nothing to be done about it.

He walked up to the front porch and rang the doorbell, dressed in old jeans and a faded t-shirt with a sweatshirt. He'd actually not seen Vecchio for a few days--he'd been busy packing, or having the thirty-seventh last meal with your family, as he'd put it, and Ray actually missed him.

Not that he'd say that, of course. But he did, and he would be very glad when Vecchio had his own place and he could go over and they could have loud sex and Ray could spend the night and then make fun of Vecchio's clothes in the morning, like Vecchio did when he stayed at Ray'sBouncing ( ... )

Frannie got to the door first, of course. She flung it open, smiled sharply when she saw Kowalski.

"Oh, hi, Ray. Here to help your bestest friend out? You're so nice." She said it like she was implying something. "Come on in, did you bring coffee for everyone?"

"Um, only for people who are nice to me." Ray gave Frannie a weird look. He expected this shit from Maria--who was still a bitch to him--but Frannie, they'd always gotten along. He was pretty sure Vecchio would've mentioned if he'd told Frannie about them.

Which meant--fuck, who knew what it meant? Frannie was mysterious in her mood swings, maybe she was just mad at Vecchio for moving out. Despite their constant bickering (or maybe, because of it), they were pretty close.

Which made Ray feel kind of bad, suddenly. "Hey, you can have mine," he offered, though--well, he'd have to stop and get more because it was way too early to deal without caffeine, and this was his favorite.

Frannie's smile softened for a moment before turning smug. She said, "Oh, no, I couldn't--" and then plucked the cup from his hands. "But if you insist."

Ray walked in from the living room, yawning. He glanced between Kowalski and Frannie, saw them both holding coffees.

"Hey," he greeted them, hands in his pockets.

"Wow, you're so gracious. I'm telling your ma you don't have any manners. Something else she can be mad about." Ray sat cross-legged on the floor, eating his sandwich.

"Seriously, you okay? You got all mad. I was just trying to be nice, by bringing lunch. Figured your family was giving you enough shit, y'know?"

"I'm not mad," Ray said with a heavy sigh. He opened the bag of chips - which was really nice of Kowalski, getting his favorite flavor and all - and started eating them at lightening speed.

"You're just some kind of crazy chip-eating machine?" Ray stared at him, totally confused. "Vecchio, you're freaking me out. I'm used to all your weird moods, but this one is kind of...weirder. What the fuck is going on?"

Ray didn't even know the answer to that. Nothing was going on, he just got all frustrated and now it wouldn't go away. He paced a little, scarfing down a few more chips before finally taking a break and sitting.

"I don't even know," he said, because it was the truth. He shook his head at his own stupidity.

"I could say it was when I had your cock in my hand and I jerked you off, but see, that'd be too easy. I knew before then." Ray looked up and realized the heater was going in the small bathroom, and that if they just stayed in there a little longer they would dry off all right. Ray's hair was short and Vecchio, well--

"You looked at me, a lot. After that night, at the diner? Sometimes you looked at my hands, and I just--dunno. Guess I just got a vibe. Something just made me keep trying."

Ah, the warm air above them felt good. Shivering a little, Ray inched closer, tightened his arms around Kowalski. It wasn't anything sappy; he just didn't want to freeze to death.

Luckily, Kowalski's words stopped Ray from going down memory lane and thinking about being stuck in horse-stuffed freezers.

"A vibe, huh? Dunno how I feel about that..." Not that he ended up having a problem with Kowalski's determination to keep trying. Worked out well for them both, after all.

Ray was not going to point out they were kind of hugging in the middle of the bathroom, because yeah, that might be a little sappy. But he loved Vecchio, even if he was pretty sure now was not the time to say that.

"Yeah, I guess? Dunno, you just seemed...there was something there. At first I thought you just didn't like me, but you know what they say, there's a thin line between--"

Ray realized he was about to say love and amended that quickly to, "--wanting to kick your partner in the head and wanting to blow him at his desk."

Ray guessed that was about right, actually. Sure, he hadn't wanted to think about it, but...he guessed he had had a...vibe. Huh. Weird.

Maybe that was why complete strangers seemed to be able to tell that they were together.

"You're hot when you're all poetic like that, Kowalski," he replied, snickering. Guess Kowalski wasn't about to forget what Ray had said about the desk thing.
