The man ran from his pursuers, darting between the dark alleys of Shinjuku. The job had ended badly and now the subordinates of the boss he just assassinated are after his life. He skidded into a dark alley and hid behind a trash can. His pursuers missing him completely, and ran forward to the street ahead.
The man was about to shift when he heard the sickly-sweet voice of a man coaxing a child into the alley. He narrowed his eyes from the corner where he was hiding and watched the newcomer’s actions.
“Of all nights...” He cursed and darted out from his hiding spot, slitting the man’s throat.
The small girl only blinked, as blood splattered on the cold pavement and he stared back. The girl didn’t cry but calmly looked up and asked,
“Who are you?” She asked, voice soft but there was a certain authority in her voice that made the man know she would not take no for an answer.
“Not anyone you should know. Are your parents around? It is not safe here.” The man replied while pushing the girl out to the main street.
As she ran towards her father’s embrace, her savior melted into the shadows, silently watching. The man smiled softly from the shadows, and scratched his nose before he slipped away into the darkness. The girl stared at her father and announced that she now knew who to marry when she was older.
The father raised his eyebrows.
”An assassin. When I’m 18, we will order for assassins to kill me. I will find him.” She declared and her father burst into peals of laughter.
”I promise you, my child. When that day comes, you’ll be prepared; and you’ll have your assassin.”

He woke up.
Shibutani Subaru, a professional assassin, has had these recurring dreams for days - he sleeps when the sun rises - and it wasn’t helping his health. He rubbed his eyes tiredly and sat up, and drowned the cup of stale alcohol by his bedside. He shuffled to the door and rubbed his eyes as a loud voice shouted his name from the kitchen.
He pointedly ignored the person who called him and went straight to the pale man sitting on the sofa. They sat in silence in a few minutes before the pale man spoke.
“Subaru.”
“Yoko.” Subaru acknowledged the other man.
“Are you sure you want to kill her?”
“Yoko, no one gets to live if they go against the tribe… you know that…” Subaru sighed.
They lost their youngest because he had refused to kill his target and that was a painful memory of the past none of them ever really let go. Yoko patted him gently on the back and went to the kitchen to whine about being hungry. Subaru sighed, and closed his eyes slightly.
Tonight he will tail his target again.
Night fell and Subaru sat on top of a building, his eyes sharp and trained on one lone girl. She was darting through the messy alley below him and she met a dead end. Her pursuers cornered her there, and before Subaru could help, there was a flash of a knife and the three men suddenly fell to the ground, their necks slit.
“Wha- Where did she go?”
“Here.”
Subaru turned back and glared. There was the girl, dressed in an oversized sweater and shorts, standing behind him.
She smirked.
“Looking for me?”
Subaru frowned. The girl leaned in, a smirk stretched out on her lips, and she blew a warm puff of air on Subaru’s ear.
“I’ll see you around, love.” She waved and disappeared off the corner of the roof, into the darkness.
Subaru cursed under his breath.

A few days later…
”You…”
Yasu looked from her drink and gasped. The petite man from a few nights ago took the seat beside her friend’s boyfriend. The usual serious-looking lawyer blinked and stared at the intruder. Before he could react, Subaru had shot Yasu a serious look. She sighed and turned to her friend, Maruyama Ryuhei, and his boyfriend, and excused herself.
The duo went out the front door and Subaru quickly pushed her into an alley and considered her figure seriously. He sneaked a look around and clasped a hand over her mouth. He leaned in and whispered into her ear, “do you know you’re on a handful of assassins’ lists of to-kill?”
She looked at him seriously, and Subaru averted his eyes. She laughed softly, head bobbed up and down in confirmation. Subaru frowned at her, wondering why a male laugh was coming from her lips.
"I cross-dress to go to bars, but I'm actually a guy. So if you're thinking of hitting on me, I hope you don't mind being at the bottom, love." Yasu said, and Subaru moved back a little.
”It’s like a game, you see. My father has a lot of enemies, and they all want me dead. I’m his supposed heir after all. Which explains why I’m in a strict military school too, but you should know this assassin-san.” Yasu giggled.
”Wha - you know my profession?” Subaru asked, voice low but Yasu could hear the disbelief in his voice.
”Yeah, and I know you’re the newest assassin to join those who wants me dead. Your boss also has high hopes for you, and you stay with two other close friends in a small run-down apartment in the outskirts Tokyo, and they are the only family you have after leaving…”
Subaru clasped a hand over her mouth and hissed a warning, his pocket knife sliding out and he pressed it against her neck. Yasu only smirked, two fingers pressed against the throbbing vein on his hip. One wrong move and Subaru would be dead. Subaru frowned at Yasu.
”So why the female outfit?” Subaru spoke, voice still low. Yasu bit back a laugh a his desperate attempt to distract her.
”I’m gay, and I honestly prefer to be in a female form so I’m still Yasu just as a girl now.” Yasu sighed, watching Subaru being slightly distracted and slipped away, her peals of laughter echoing in the silent night.
”Better luck next time, Subaru.” She blew him a kiss and slipped back into the bar.

Subaru punched the wall and quickly made his way back to the apartment. He threw the door open, spooking the heap of bodies on the couch. The two men scampered off the sofa, the shorter one with bright eyes flushed red.
Subaru ignored their state of undress and walked to the alcohol cupboard, drawing a whiskey bottle - Yamazaki because Yoko likes it - and poured out half a glass and proceeded to gulp half down.
His throat burned and he turned to his two best friends.
”Do you think they want me dead, and that's the reason why they gave me this assignment? I’m honestly considering to put that gun to my temple and shoot myself dead.” Subaru whined, and the other two sat beside him on the couch.
”Subaru, do you…” Yoko whispered.
”Subaru, is she really that hard to kill?” Shingo asked.
”Wait… she?” Subaru sat up.
”Yeah, didn’t the information state that the target was a girl? And you were still talking about if she is a really sexy one, maybe you could score a night stand with her before…” Shingo muttered, scrolling on his iPad about the target information.
Subaru peered over his shoulder and frowned. He blinked and suddenly stood up, dashing to the door. There was something weird. Why would the order be to kill her specifically when she was a guy?
”Don’t wait for me, I’ll be back late.”
The door slammed close and Yoko looked at Shingo. “What?”
Shingo shrugged, yawning. “Well, now we have the whole apartment all to ourselves.”
”Think Subaru fell for his target? She is pretty much his type…” Yoko worried his lower lip.
”I bet my savings he is but he won’t admit it… now get over here and finish what we started just now!”

Subaru dashed around, remembering faintly where Yasu lives at. His heart throbbed in his chest, panicking a little as he spotted one assassin disguised as someone, sending her home. He skidded to a stop, face red from all the running, and hid behind a tree. She was giggly, eyes hazed and her movements sluggish.
”Drugged?” Subaru thought to himself and before he could react, the other assassin fell to the floor, a puddle of blood pooling from the cut on his neck.
"What the fuck," Subaru cursed when a knife stopped by his neck.
Yasu smirked, removing the knife from Subaru’s neck. “Hello, we met again tonight.”
Subaru stared at him incredulously. The girl - no, boy - had removed her wig. And the boy looked somehow, very vaguely familiar, like Subaru had met him somewhere before.
Yasu leaned in and brushed his lips against his cheek.
“Good night, Shibuyan~”
The smaller man slipped away through the heavily guarded door. Subaru sighed. Another night passed, another failed attempt.

His classmates - Maru and Ohkura - grabbed Yasu the moment he reached class. They dragged him all the way to the rooftop where they hung out during lunch, and Maru started to check up on him. Yasu frustratedly shrugged off the roaming hands of Maru and came clean to his friends.
Okura narrowed his eyes, and peeked at their surroundings. Maru pouted, his eyes turning wet. Yasu rolled his eyes at them, and bit into his rice. Okura sighed, and stole some of the meat from Yasu’s homemade bento since he wouldn’t finish everything anyway. Yasu chewed his food slowly, thinking about Subaru, whether he would approach him again or not.
The petite man entertained him; his reactions and his frustrations whenever he outsmarts him. Also, if his sources were right, he wanted to leave the gang but the leader probably knew he was a difficult person to deal with, hence deterring him from leaving. But it has been almost a month and he is still here. Yasu should really ask his dad to award him a medal for his persistence, on top of the marriage proposal he has in mind of course.
The bell rang and Okura grumbled about not being full and Maru’s sympathetically agreed. They slowly walked back to the classroom when Yasu stopped on his tracks and turned to his friends to excuse himself for a bit. Okura frowned and was about to ask when Yasu shook his head, and winked at them. Maru rolled his eyes and realisation dawn on Okura as Yasu watched them disappear into the classroom while he walked to the garden.

Dressed in black, three assassins stood there in broad daylight. Yasu raised his eyebrows at them and they charged together. Yasu ducked, hands flying out to grab hold of one of them and knocked the weapon out of his hand, before he slit the assassin’s wrist.
”One down, two more to go…” Yasu thought to himself and a smirk graced his face again.
The knife he has in his hand darted out and slashed a mark on his attacker’s cheek when the other came from behind. Before he could react, he heard a grunt, and the second attacker crumbled to the ground. Yasu slashed the neck of the last one, and turned when a sharp needle was inserted into his neck.
Before he could scream for help, Yasu’s eyes fluttered close and he fell into darkness.
Cold water splashed his face, and Yasu woke up coughing. He glared at his captor and his eyebrows raised at the crowd that had gathered in front of him. He took one look at his surroundings, and his tense form relaxed back into his chair.
”So assassins from different bosses now work in a group? I’m amazed my own poweress actually caused this to happen…” Yasu addressed the crowd as he slumped against the chair.
There was a loud roar as the assassins hurled vulgarities at his face, many spat on the floor and Yasu showed a sign of recognition as Subaru crept closer. He spotted a knife in the assassin’s hand, and shook his head silently at him. Subaru frowned and Yasu shook his head again, firmer this time.
Yasu waited for the crowd to finish, and smirked. “You do know the knot you’ve tied me with is the most pathetic knot I have ever tried to untie?”
Another outcry and Yasu broke through the restrains and three assassins, who were standing in the front row, laid dead on the floor. Subaru blinked, and another five laid dead. Each corpse has a slit on their neck.
Yasu twirled the pocket knife in his hand and smirked, ducking from two assassins and stabbing one in the neck, while his hand pressed the spray he had in his pocket. Both assassins screamed in pain and Yasu hopped to the top of the crate.
”First mistake you made: not searching me thoroughly enough to remove weapons. Second mistake: not using your own strengths to take me out; if you’re already going to group together and assassin me together, might as well work on your strengths, but you pulled this foolish plan and obviously failed.”
Yasu shook his head and bit back a laugh as the assassins blinked at him confusedly. The door of the warehouse opened, and Yasu giggled. A policeman ran in, gun out and demanded everyone in the warehouse to lower their weapons and kneel on the floor. Troops flood in and each assassin was attended by an officer. Subaru dejectedly allowed himself to be handcuffed and Yasu clicked his tongue in annoyance.
The officer who handcuffed Subaru looked up and spotted Yasu on the crates. His voice changed to a softer tone.
”Sho-chan, come down from there! It’s so high, you’ll hurt yourself!” He hollered and Yasu pouted silently, hopping down the crates to stand in front of Subaru.
He whacked the officer’s hands off Subaru, unlocking his cuffs. He dusted the dirt off Subaru’s pants and tugged him over to the policeman who spoke. Subaru spotted the name tag on his uniform. Nishikido. He blinked as Yasu affectionately hugged him and whispered something into his ear. Nishikido, or Ryo as Yasu called him, blinked and nodded.
Ryo checked Yasu carefully and realised that he didn’t have much injuries. He waved his team and the assassins were marched out quickly. Subaru blinked and stared at Yasu, not quite understanding the entire situation now.
”Shibuyan… you must be very curious what happened… but rest assure, everything will be great again. Yoko and Shin-chan are waiting for us, let’s hurry.” Yasu said cheerfully, patting Subaru’s cheeks gently.
”What did you do to Yoko and Hina?” Subaru snapped, his blood ran cold.
”Nothing. Although you might have to apologise to your new master now.” Yoko walked out from one of the police cars. Shingo trailed behind him.
”You guys, what happened?” Subaru asked, his brain exploding and came to a standstill.
”That is a story for another day.” Shingo smirked, and Subaru exploded with frustration.
”Shibuyan, to simply explain the current situation… you’re now mine, and you have no say in this.” a tiny tug of his lip, and Yasu leaned in. “I’m your master now, and you’re my assassin.”
Subaru whined, and Yasu pressed an urgent kiss on his cheek. Subaru blushed and Yasu entwined their hands together. They made their way to the dark tinted car together.
” Now you can’t run away anymore.”

” So you’re saying, that girl… that I saved… twelve years back… was you?”
” Yes, haven’t you been listening to the story?” Yasu clicked his tongue impatiently, as his calloused fingers strummed the guitar.
” And… your father is a triad boss… who is helping his son to find his boyfriend?” Subaru pressed a hand to the guitar strings and glared at him.
” I only knew you were an assassin, so well, my father sent out a notice to help me find you. Who knew so many idiots decided to join the fun? Do you think it was fun to kill all those people?” Yasu snapped back, putting his guitar down.
Subaru rubbed his temple. “You’re such a troublemaker. And I can’t believe you aren’t a girl, what the heck.”
” Hey, it’s not my fault that my mom gave me that haircut! My replacement teacher also didn’t realise I was a boy…” Yasu pouted.
” Well, all is well now huh.” Subaru rolled his eyes. “And you’re stuck with this old man.”
” Ten years older doesn’t counted as old!” Yasu retorted.
"Fine."
