Poll: should photo carousels auto-transition or not?

Time for a quick survey.

Background
A lot of my time and attention at the moment is being spent on Photos in Querki. It turns out, as I go through my Use Cases, that Photos aren't just a nice-to-have -- the ability to add Photos as a first-class data type, easily, in a controlled way, is one of Querki's real power features, and I'm finding that ( Read more... )

Hmm. Reasonable suggestion, but not AFAIK built into Bootstrap, so it'll require extra design and work. I probably won't do it first-pass, but I'll log an enhancement request for it. Thanks!

+1. I wonder if you can you set it to auto-slideshow and also auto-pause.

Plausible -- as mentioned upthread, I'm going to log an enhancement request for this sort of control. I'll add this idea to there. Thanks!

I'm always in favor of manual with arrow keys to rotate forward and backward.

I hate photo carousels in general. For example, see the sciencefriday.com site http://sciencefriday.com/
The section with the numbered segments would be much more user-friendly (to me, as the user) if there were just seven (or whatever) separate clickable thumbnails that didn't change. I have no coding experience, so I don't know how much harder this would be. Or maybe it would be easier, but everybody who is not me might not prefer lots of little things to one revolving thing.

Actually, the thumbnails are already implemented, and have been for a while. But the carousel thing is kind of a necessity for any site that is trying to be mobile-friendly, which is an *extremely* high priority for Querki. Thumbnails just plain take too much space on a smartphone screen. This enhancement is happening precisely because I've found that thumbnails work badly in a lot of likely scenarios. (The thumbnail option will remain for those who want to build their Spaces that way.)

I'm already thinking about splitting the difference, with a thumbnail view that you can pull down from the carousel. But that's a ways off -- it's a bunch of extra work...

I like both, actually. I tend to click through if I'm looking through an album, but for a front page, display what we do kind of thing, I'd rather than it on automatic. Preferrably with variable timing I can set. I find 5 second is WAY too long for me to be patient and wait for the next slide, but other people probably don't feel that way.
