Notes: Mostly fluffy set of three linked drabbles, one for each increment of ten in the theme.
Ten seconds after he’d blurted out his darkest secret to Niya, Sakito wished to take it all back, to pretend he wasn’t in desperate love with his bassist. To regain the friendship he’d surely just destroyed.
“Niya, say something…” he bleated feebly to the stony-faced man across from him. Sakito would have been close to hysterics if he allowed his perfect self-control to slip for even a half second.
Niya shook his head, white, pale under the sheet of silver hair. He rose slowly, dropping some coins on the table for the drinks they were sharing, and left in silence.

Ten days passed in a blur of barely checked tears, late night apologies, and even later rendez-vous. Sakito woke up disoriented with Niya’s left arm folded over him, bare skin on tender bare skin. I love you, I love you, I love you… Sakito mouthed over and over while the bassist slept, touching his hair, nose, shoulders with delicate caresses. The panic was still there, but buried deep and treated carefully lest his newfound happiness succeed.
Niya stirred and smiled in his sleep, murmuring something unintelligible. Sakito’s heart melted a little bit more. “I love you,” he whispered out loud.

Ten years later, Sakito reflected back in increments of ten. April tenth, the day he confessed. Ten months, the time it took for the lovers to move in together permanently. Ten fingers, all for the sole purpose of exploring every inch of Niya’s beloved skin. And now, tenth anniversary. The fear had been buried for so long, it had dissolved into nothing, because Sakito knew better than to doubt after a decade of utter faithfulness.
White roses on his pillow, two short of a dozen, with a tiny, hand drawn heart on a scrap of card greeted Sakito after work.
