Well, my dad got 'the letter' from the state of Florida secretary of state. He needs to take a vision test, a written test and a driving test to keep his drivers licence.  I don't know yet how many times he can take it before it gets revoked.  He picked up a Florida Rules of the Road book that has the signs, rules, and such. Here in Ontario, as soon as you hit 80 you have to attend a seminar and take a written test every two years. If you pass the written test, they renew your licence for two more years. If you fail the written test, you have to do a driving test.

My Mom just passed her written test for the third time in a row. What a relief!

I hope your Dad does okay.

I hope he does well John. I couldn't live without a license. But there may be some other community services that offer transportation to "house-bound" adults. If things don't go well with the test I recommend calling the local united way immediately.

Best of Luck to John's Dad!

Thanks.

We've been checking about transit methods. Flagler County Transit, which is a 'dial a ride' service, is useless. They're completely full, with no funding to increase service. The nursing home and I are checking with social services in Flagler County to see if theres any alternative to using a cab service. that's not cheep. The issue with these towns that came up (literally) from the swamp is that they never thought about public transit. I'm sure they figured that folks would drive, or use a bike. There are a bunch of bike trails in the area, but most seniors aren't going to use a bike or even a golf cart.

So, we'll cross our fingers, toes, etc and hope for the best.
