Hey Mad Latinist, any chance you'd be willing to help me translate a word into High Valyrian? I've been browsing David Peterson's site and you certainly seem to be an authority on the language. I'd greatly appreciate the help!
the word is "endure". I hope to make a shirt for runners with the phrase "valar endure", aka All Men Must Endure. I certainly appreciate your help! I'm totally over my head trying to make sense of the linguistic rules Peterson has created.
Sorry, had a busy week and forgot about your request!
Hmm, well we don't know how to say "endure" yet. I was thinking it's comparatively easy to coin a word that literally means "to keep on going." The problem is we don't know the aorist of the verb "to go," which is the for we'd need here. I suppose we could do "keep on coming" ... that would be valar jomāzissi.
That said, I think what you should really do is write DJP himself. He's almost certain to reply, though he may take a while. But you'd have the real word from the actual language creator, so it would be worth it if you ask me! (Also, I'd like to have the word too, so... ;) )
awesome, thanks for the help. Here's what I submitted to him:
Hi David, big fan of your work. Any chance I could request a translation of the word "endure" into High Valyrian? The problem is we don't know the aorist of the verb "to go," which is needed. The closest we've got is "keep on coming", which would be "jomāzissi."
