Time once again for Game of Thrones conlangs. Today we'll be doing episode 304, "And Now His Watch is Ended." The Valyrian scene in this episode is just incredible. If you want to take a look for yourself, see here. For David J. Peterson's entry on this episode (which, recall, we are calling SUZKO), see hereLinguistically, one of the most important ( Read more... )

I did actually read them all :P .However from looking at the wiki, it says that Braavos is the only one of the nine free cities which wasn't a colony of the Valyrian Freehold, so that's why I think I tried to separate it from the others, even in the linguistic aspect. However you're right, it is a form of valyrian as well, it's just that it's not as emphasized as the slaver's bay or the tyroshi (as their languages are always refered to as bastardised valyrian, while braavosi is always just braavosi)
Anyway, a simple misunderstanding of mine :)

Also, from ÆH, we see the form "majin" for "I come", which helps to define both that this verb is probably always used with an "i" ending, and that the "n" - no matter if it's preceded by "a", as normally, or by "i"- is the 1s form for AV, the same as HV.

However, this does bring the question of how to differ this kind of verb when using 3s and 3pl. If the most common form of 3pl is "-is", could the verb "majis" be "majilis" in the 3pl?

Then it looks like we have already seen other cases of this verb kind (rughilis and zughilis) and just didn't realize that. If we then assume that all these (majilis, rughilis and zughilis) are of the same kind, then the conjugation would be:

1s: rughin 1pl: rughilisi
2s: rughi? 2pl: rughi?
3s: rughis 3pl: rughilis

This is interesting, because then all the verbs of this kind are more similar to what we see in HV (like morghulis) than in AV.

What do you think?

I think in those cases the 3s and 3p are just the same. For example, notice that when Jorah smells, it's tuzis, and when the Dothraki smell it's exactly the same form.

The -il- form occurs in other persons too, like ghózila, for one. As I've been saying, I think it's said for things that don't take place at a specific time.
