Interesting character study! Jack's protectiveness and caring really shines. And THANK YOU for Daniel Jackson, camp savant! People tend to think he's a cerebral academic, but between studying pre-industrial cultures and going on all those digs, he has to be pretty skilled.
You're welcome. Anyone used to living for weeks/months in temporary quarters in the remote back-of-beyond has to become pretty ingenious and adaptable in order to survive. Our Daniel is more than up to the task. Plus, he's been on his own since childhood so self-sufficiency is almost instinctual. As for Jack, he's a hard man with a lifetime of regrets to deal with who only recently discovered that there might still be another chapter or two in his life story. He went to Abydos the first time to die and his plans were thwarted - and it wasn't all bad. Jack has a warm core under that steely exterior. Glad you liked it.
Ooh, nice look inside Jack's head, his life, and his erotic dreams! It's an impossible time, and there's tragedy to come...but Daniel won't be destroyed. Watch and see, Jack.
Thanks. I've always wondered what the final straw was for Jack, when he made the tragic error of turning his attentions towards Sam. It never felt "right" to me, for Jack or Sam, even when I looked with my pre-slash eyes. It's a theme I like exploring. A man who feels that he'll never be able to have what he really wants can do a lot of damage to himself and those around him when he tries to cope and settles for something else.
I like the way you describe Jack's thoughts. There is so much sadness in them - but with these detailed erotic dreams I'm sure he'll find the strenght in the future to confront Daniel with his feelings. Very nice.
