Well, apparently this was a feature requested by a large number of users. Not something they dreamed up and hit us with.

Hrm.

It seems to me that there's a couple of things going on here. First of all, they seem to have an extremely poor way of letting people know what's coming up. I get email alerts from just about every other service I use about new features, but LJ never does this -- they put the updates in an LJ community which you'd have to a) know exists and b) subscribe to in order to know what they're posting.

Second, why not make the feature available as OPT IN? That is, make it possible for someone to mark their own account as adult content, instead of doing that for them? I should think in particular if one is already on a flist there's not much point in suddenly blocking all that preemptively.

It's a crazy way to run things.

And on the flip side, I'd like to be able to set something in my profile that says "I'm OK with this content. Don't bother lj-cutting it." There are already setting for graphics and videos. Would this be terribly different?

I like to read LJ anonymously when I'm away from home so I don't accidentally leave myself logged in somewhere, and the trend appears to be making it increasingly difficult to do so in a useful way.

It looks like such a setting does exist. I'll play with it tonight.

Who else just went and found the item where they announced this nonsense, and then used their stupid flagging system to report it as offensive content?

Just me? :)

Well, I *tried* to flag your journal as having Welsh content, but that wasn't an option. :P
