Amy Winehouse

Hey, the_dean, there was a short writeup of Amy Winehouse in this month's Rolling Stone; her alcoholism is graphically described. Just so you know.
Going to get some lino for prints once this knitting project is done.

I had heard that she is a huge drunk. But then Billie Holliday did heroin. ~laugh~

So she appears to be, and as with Janis Joplin, it's a horrible waste of someone's life. I liked her song, and I'd like to hear more of her.

If you are looking for a project, various mathemeticians are posting directions for knitting very interesting shapes such as a Lorenze Manifold. (I think I got that right.) My wife, who has a degree in math, thought the science news article was terrific. So far, however, it has been a way cute sweater for nephew, hat for son, headband for me and now socks for her. Last year she knitted a pair of clogs. Initially they were big enough to hold basketballs. However, once they were felted down, they became her size clogs, and really attractive. I suppose I should post a pic or two.

Yeah, mathematical knitting. The influence of more women in math? I don't know, but its bigger that you might think. The following website has all sorts of links to crafty mathematical projects:

I thought I had a link saved to the Lorentz Transformation, too, but I can't find it. It's quite spectacular, but done in crochet. I'll keep looking for it. Frankly, I think that crochet is the way to go for the hyperbolic planes, too, even though there are knitting instructions available.

And of course, Elizabeth Zimmerman reinvented the Moebius Scarf long ago and there are many patterns for such scarves floating around the ether.
