So, Friday night I came home in a bad mood and that, combined with the remote system on my car freaking out a few days before and me not dealing meant that I left my car unlocked on the street outside my house

Did they leave anything? My car was broken into one time and they took a jacket and left a sweater. A friend explained it as having something to do with an honor code among people stealing necessary items that they couldn't afford to buy.

Someone I knew used to leave her car unlocked deliberately in Brooklyn rather than deal with the cost of broken windows. Somebody broke a quarter window anyway.
