Actually, what I believe is God is always influencing us the way we should go. And not only us, but everyone around us. But it isn't control, it is a suggestion. Therefore, horrible things happen to us from time to time. But, even in the darkness of those times, God is there loving us, supporting us if we could only listen.

Most of us need to get our heads out of the sand, look around, and join together to try and make a difference for human beings who live on this planet.
