I loved this opportunity to gather my thoughts and get to the heart of my project! My story is about three sisters: Grief, Guilt, and Regret and how they seem to be born of the same experience - one mother: loss It's about how these 'girls' take hold of people differently and samely. It's about finding yourself at the brink of breakdown about resilience and how we might find it in our connections to the people around us. There's this teacher who lost her sister and while she seems to be coping on the outside, underneath, she's a mess. And it's about a student a girl of 14 who already has regrets that involve money and other, more precious, things and a boy, of course.
No longer a blank page - THANK YOU!ext_2665811July 6 2015, 13:45:22 UTC
Good Morning, Jo! Thank you for the post. What a great idea! While reading about your WIP, I began thinking about the poems you might have written for your other novels.:)
There’s nothing like a blank page. Here goes: This is a story about a boy Fourth grade Who loves sports More than school Except for his teacher (his first crush) His friends His coaches Soccer Action and goals Basketball Breaking ankles and fade away jump shots Lacrosse Face-offs and assists Until he learns That school is As important as sports Procrastination Silliness Short cuts Immaturity Jared, the opponent and bully Get in the way of success Through school projects He learns Things That will help him on The field and court Enjoying a good book Research A project Not cool Can’t tell his friends What will he do? His story needs to be told Time to write
Thank you for Teachers Write! Enjoy that blank page, which is no longer blank.
Thinking about my cat: Her end of her tail was missing when we got her. Thought she was a stray, had to convince a neighborhood teenager to let us keep her. She didn't like Josh pulling her tail. She wasn't social for a really long time and then she was. What was that about? Sometimes she's waiting at the door for me when I get home, like a dog. Mostly she's sleeping. She's finally learned to gently tap me with her paw when she wants something in the middle of the night. On my face. Her whiskers tickle. Does she wish she had kitty friends? What does she think about all day and does she realize she's old?
I am a notebook junky, too. I keep one with me at all times. I have them going back about 15 years. Thanks, Jo, for an awesome first day prompt!
It’s a time travel book I love time travel stories And I’ve never got this far into a story before He’s a tough kid - but a good kid. He needs a fresh start He inherits some money and a house He and Mom move to New Hampshire He doesn’t want to go What will I do in the country? A kind, old man is there to guide him He makes a couple of real friends And one enemy He finds a cave that is actually a time portal His mom gets sick - really sick A friend from the future She loves him - He loves her She returns to the future She comes back as an old woman With a cure His father He never knew A brief affair for mom Dad disappeared Should he go back in time to meet him? Or, is his father in the future? Or has he been here the whole time? Too many plots? MG or YA? I hate first drafts!
I want to… write more because writing begets more writing practice makes things better I want to get better but more than that I want to live as a writer because that is a wide-awake kind of way to live and I also want to explore and express what is in my heart and my head about all sorts of things what is happening in my classroom what is happening in my career what is happening in education today what is happening in my life wow- that is all over the place!
I want to develop a ritual of daily writing it can be quite personal, this reflecting so some of that won’t ever get shared but other stuff needs to get out and be heard so here I go.

Get in the way of success
Through school projects
He learns

Can’t tell his friends
What will he do?
His story needs to be told

A kind, old man is there to guide him

His mom gets sick - really sick
A friend from the future
She loves him - He loves her
She returns to the future
She comes back as an old woman
With a cure
His father
He never knew
A brief affair for mom
Dad disappeared
Should he go back in time to meet him?
Or, is his father in the future?
Or has he been here the whole time?
Too many plots?
MG or YA?
I hate first drafts!
