It's official, I have the worst scene partner in the history of students performing Shakespeare! Our first scene is from The Taming of the Shrew, Act 2: Scene 1. It's Kate and Petruchio's first meeting, from Kate's entrance to when she strikes him. Pretty short, in other words. Also, pretty darn easy to understand

Who doesn't know the story of The Taming of the Shrew? Didn't he ever see the movie or one of the many variation son it? He probably doesn't know who the vice-president is, either.

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't know what state he was in.

And I ended up having to ask if he'd ever seen 10 Things I Hate About You. Not exactly Shakespeare, but close enough. He had, but it didn't seem to have helped. I'm going to request that he rent Hamlet next weekend so he at least has some idea what's going on in that one. Since, you know, it's not like he could actually read the freaking play or anything.../bitter

Is there any chance you can get a different partner? Because this guy sounds like (a) prime asshole; and (b)completely unmotivated.

And why should he? You obviously care more about your grade than he does, so you'll reschedule your day, cancel *your* plans, all for his advantage.

I'd like to say that these guys vanish after graduation, but sadly, they abound in the working world, where they manage to coast along on the efforts of others.

I wish I could, but I'm stuck for the rest of the term. My only way out is if he completely blows this off and shows up drunk or something. Then, I can probably request monologues.

(Revenge can be sweet, though--the last time I ran into one of those kinds of people was on a software project. Unfortunately for him, I was a project lead and a manager and not afraid to dock his bonus for not doing his share of the work. He disappeared during the next round of layoffs, to hearty sighs of relief from everyone else on the team.)

Poor Fay. To be stuck with the very insensitive and completely clueless is never an amusing proposition. Hopefully, he'll screw up so bad that you can justifiably ask to do monologues. Or you can go to the prof and explain the situation, let him know that you are the one carrying the group. Sometimes that helps.

I certainly hope so! I think I can survive the humiliation of having this scene completely ruined if it means I'm free of that idiot for the rest of the semester.

And let's see...
1) The history of Archaeology as well as its goals and how they are reached.
2) The development and dispersal of modern humans.
3) The origins of agriculture.

I'll most likely be choosing topic #1.

Topic #1 is a little more 'cut and dried' and specific than the other two, so a bit easier to answer.

*nods* Yeah, that was what I was thinking too. Besides, the development of Ag is boring and I always get the order of the hominids confused. >.<
