I've been rewatching some of S3 and 4 lately, and while I continue to love the Sheldon/Penny dynamic, I sometimes feel that I have to squint to see the 'shipiness that I used to in the earlier seasons. Fanfic-wise, I've become more picky than before about what I take as believable, because they're establishing so much Other as canon that it frustrates me, and yet, I can't seem to deviate too far from it.

So this fic? Love it. Cause the setup is believable (thank you), the characters true-to-self (thanks again), but tidbits like this:

She could feel something thud and skid beneath the Superman emblem, his wide blue eyes following the movement of his shirt as it ran between her ink stained fingers. And she let him, saying nothing, because an hour and fifty-three minutes after setting out, the sky had parted, and without asking, quite possibly without thinking, he had taken her hand. And ran so fast that she thought they might fly. ...are SO IN LINE with their existing dynamic that I buy it 150% and yet it fulfills my 'shipping soul ( ... )

Oh, your reply to the previous comment just caught my eye. I actually believe that Sheldon could take Penny's hand at that point, without even really ascribing any meaning to it just because he would, at that moment, care only to get them both out of the rain. (but when I say he wouldn't put any meaning to it, I do, of course, intend that there actually be meaning, he just wouldn't know it!)

Also? If Sheldon and/or Penny did get sick from getting caught in the rain? I imagine there will be tea and multiple rounds of "Soft Kitty", which is deliciously ironic and perfect.

(So you see, I am an unabashed 'shipper after all!)

You are right about it being harder to ship them on the show now, which makes it just that little bit more of a challenge than it once was to get right in fic. I still &hearts them completely so it's a nice challenge.

And idk maybe I just have a thing about accidental hand holding...but I like your reasoning :)
