"Master...what exactly are we looking for?"
Much strode wearily through the long grass behind Robin. They had left Locksley Manor almost an hour ago, and the young manservant was becoming increasingly fed up, tired, and because he was being ignored, a little hurt. He had asked this question several times now, but had yet to receive an answer.
No, that wasn't exactly true. Robin had mentioned something earlier on. A name.
Marian.
There were times when Much wondered what exactly went on in his master's head, and this was never more apparent--or indeed baffling--as when Edward's daughter was concerned. As he loved Robin he did his best to understand, but it wasn't always easy. Especially when it involved nameless quests outdoors, in the early evening, when the sun was shining directly into his eyes. Much was already well on his way to developing a limp--the last thing he needed in addition was a permanent squint.
"I mean," Much continued, "don't get me wrong--a gift should be special. It should mean something. But unless you have it in mind to present Marian with a pet badger...why traipse all this way into the fields? Because I know what will happen. We will reach the end of the fields, and the start of the forest. And we will go into the forest, and we will become lost. And then I shall be in trouble, because I am your manservant...and I should be leading you home."
He was watching the ground throughout this speech, having nearly tripped already into several rabbit burrows--when, suddenly, Much strode into something hard. There was a burst of pain in his nose, and he saw the world tip slowly to one side...
And then he saw nothing at all.

Robin, if he were honest, had tuned out Much's voice quite some time ago. But this had made him feel somewhat guilty, and he had just been in the process of turning around when Much crashed into him. In a tangle of limbs, they had tumbled inelegantly into the long grass.
"Oh, Much."
He sighed. It was a long way back, if he was going to be carrying his friend.
Fortunately, he was saved of this choice when Much, eyes springing open, sat up with a jerk. "Yes, Master!" he half-shouted, before he stopped in confusion, and looked around to find Robin gazing at him innocently. Much coughed. "You knocked me out," he said, tightly.
Robin was about to correct this, when he spotted something. "Well done, Much!" he exclaimed. "You found one!"
"One what?" Much asked, forgetting he was supposed to be sulking.
"This," Robin replied, standing up. "I was beginning to think we'd never find any. "
"You..." Much stared. "You mean we came out all this way...for a flower?"
Robin helped Much to his feet, Marian's gift clutched with great care in his other hand, and together, still half-bickering as the sun set over the trees, they made their way home.
