Prop 8 Rant

Nov 10, 2008 00:41

Well, it is seriously looking like California will pass Prop 8, and rescind the right to marry they recently granted gay people.  In "honor" of this ignominious event, I made the icon that graces this post.    For their hypocritical and repugnant behavior they deserve more harsh words than I can devise.   They had their chance when this came up ( Read more... )

Wow...from LDS to paganism. That must be an interesting story.

Yes. I have considered myself pagan since I was about 12. That was also the year my parents got divorced. I have often thought that may have contributed to my disillusionment with the LDS church, where marriage is supposed to last forever. Not "til death do you part" but for "time and all eternity." Strangely, my father, who professes to be LDS but is really more survivalist than anything else, is the one who gave me my first magic books. Two of Scott Cunningham's Encyclopedias. I was required to go to Seminary every morning before school for all four years of high school. In the LDS church it means a scripture study class. The more of the bible I read the more disgusted I became with my "christian" contemporaries, who were the very definition of "Sunday Christians". This, along with the abuse I suffered at their hands, soured me on Christianity as a religion for a long time. I've grown out of it, fortunately. There are a lot of good non-hate mongering Christians out there. So I wound up knowing more of the bible than most of my ( ... )

Also, a reason I chose Paganism is that I feel it grants more equality than Christianity, which is largely patriarchal.

That's the main reason some of my girlfriends are Wiccans.

See... What I want to know is how allowing a loving, committed homosexual couple to marry somehow completely strips any worth from a heterosexual marriage...

...when, oh... Britney Spears' 24-hour marriage didn't.

I've never been able to figure that one out either. No-one else's marriage has any affect on mine (unless, unbeknownst to me, my husband is a bigamist).

I couldnt agree with you more. This whole situation is ignorant to say the least. People should be able to choose whatever lifestyle they wish. Love is hard enough to find as it is.

Yes I was a little bit incensed when I found out that "the people" had voted to pass Prop 8. I find it hypocritical and just generally wrong for them to allow something and then turn around and change their minds. Especially CALIFORNIA of all places, which is supposed to be all liberal and open minded and such.

Everyone brings this argument back to the Bible and religion and such, but to them I say this...Doesn't it also tell us in the Bible not to pass judgement upon others? Or is there an exception made for this one topic, along with abortion and maybe a few others?

Ugh. It disgusts me.
