Chapter 2
Jayma was running late to the cast screening of their latest episode. She pulled into the parking lot at Paramount, grabbed her things from the seat next to her and headed off in a half run to the screening room. When she walked in the room was dark and the opening credits were playing. Glancing around, she looked for an open seat as she tried to catch her breath.
Matt was sitting in the back row near the door when Jayma came rushing in, and he motioned to her to take the empty seat next to him. He was all alone in the back row.
Accepting his invitation Jayma shuffled in past Matt and took a seat, "I didn't miss much did I?"
"No, it's only about 2 minutes in. Were you running?" Matt noticed Jayma's heavy breathing.
"Yeah, I've been behind all day! And it's at least 100 degrees out there! This day is just not cooperating with me at all." Jayma whispered before she peeled off her t-shirt, leaving herself in only a white tank top.
Matt watched appreciatively as she bent down to turn her phone on silent and slip it into her purse on the floor. "Well I'll do my best to make it better." He sent a playful wink in her direction when she sat back up.
Jayma just rolled her eyes and turned her attention to the screen in front of them.
The room was abuzz with the show playing and their cast members chatting with each other, commenting on the scenes and laughing. Matt paid little attention to the screen, as he found himself more entranced in watching Jayma's different facial reactions to each scene and line. He smiled to himself as he watched her laugh wholeheartedly to a funny scene in Sue’s office. The next scene was a Will and Emma one, in their bedroom as Will clicked off the television and carried on about Sue. He saw Jayma visibly stiffen and a blush, barely visible in the dark room, crept up her cheeks as she watched the intimate interaction between the two take place in front of her. A unanimous "Aww" rang loudly through the room as the scene ended, causing Jayma to blush further.
"Hey." Matt got as close as he could and whispered in Jayma's ear. "Should we talk about what happened last week?"
Goosebumps spread over her entire body as Matt's breath danced against her skin. She glanced over to look at him, but found that he was closer then she expected. And her heart raced as she realized her face was just centimeters from his, and the only thing running through her mind was how much she wanted him to just lean forward a little bit a capture her lips with his. Her body warmed at the thought and she was thankful for the lack of lighting, veiling her blush, her desire.
"I…do we need to?" Jayma bit her bottom lip, and she noticed Matt's attention turn fully to her mouth and linger there as he spoke. Maybe he wanted the same thing she wanted.
"No, I just wanted to make sure we're okay." He covered her hand that was resting between them with his own.
Jayma looked down where their skin met, her stomach fluttering at the sensation. "We're fine. I'm fine. Are you fine?" All she could concentrate on was the feeling of his thumb rubbing circles on her skin.
Matt chuckled, "Yeah, I'm fine."
Matt turned his attention back to the screen, but he didn't remove his hand. He liked touching Jayma, far more then he should. But it felt right as he gently stroked her index finger with his own. And he watched as Jayma closed her eyes, putting up no protest to his affection. It was daring, what he was doing, but he couldn’t stop himself; there was just something drawing him into her, and he didn’t want to fight it; and she wasn’t fighting it.
Jayma was no longer watching the episode as she focused all her attention on just feeling Matt's touch. He rubbed small circles on the back of her hand, playing with her fingers, lifting one at a time, running his thumb along the length of it. She even caressed his skin in return, feeling the roughness of his knuckle between her slender fingers. They stayed that way throughout the rest of the show, both completely encompassed in each other, but without so much as even looking at each other. They were so consumed in the moment that they were caught off guard when the lights in the room illuminated and Matt retracted his hand at lightning speed.
Jayma unconsciously straightened her clothing, refusing to meet Matt's eyes. Thankfully seconds later Dot made her way over to the two of them and started up a conversation with Matt; Jayma used it as an opportunity to remove herself from the cloud of sexual tension between herself and Matt. She started in the direction of Brad so she could talk to him about an upcoming scene she wanted his advice on, but not before Matt could grab her arm. She looked back startled, meeting his eyes.
"See you tomorrow?" The question sounded casual enough but the look in his eyes was desperate.
"Yeah. See you tomorrow." She pulled away heading to the other side of the room. Looking over her shoulder back at Matt she saw he was watching her as he tried his best to seem interested in what Dot was saying. And she smiled at him shyly before turning her attention back to search for Brad.
Matt watched her across the room; Dot had since moved on and started up a conversation with someone else. He wanted to know what Jayma was thinking, what she was feeling; he wanted to know that she wanted him as much as he wanted her. He glanced down at the place where they had been sitting noticing Jayma’s purse still sitting there. She would have to come back for it, so Matt took a seat and busied himself on his phone as he waited. He started to look through the photos on his phone. He went to the beginning scanning past them quickly until he would come to one of Jayma. He would linger on each one; her bright smile, expressive eyes, and in nearly every photo she had her hand up in a wave to the camera.
As the last of the cast was leaving and the lights flickered off, Jayma ended her conversation with Brad thanking him and turned in the direction where she had left her things. When her eyes landed on Matt’s form, his face illuminated by the screen of his phone, her heart began to race.
“You’re still here.” She sat down beside him.
Matt looked up at her, his elbows resting on his knees. “Yeah.”
“Why?” She moved a hand to rest on his thigh. “Is everything okay?”
It was all the permission he needed; Matt sat up, closing the distance between them, cupping Jayma’s face in his palm as he began to move his lips against hers.
As soon as the shock subsided Jayma’s lips began to move with his. The kiss was slow and sensual, the way he moved his mouth with hers so perfectly was electrifying, and it was over too soon.
Matt pulled away resting his forehead against hers, his breath mingling with hers as they each attempted to steady their heart rate. “I’ve wanted to do that since the moment you walked into this room, and I wasn’t going to leave without doing it.”
It was a whisper and before she knew it he was walking away, through the door and into the only light illuminating the darkness in the room.
