Valve angers me because they won't develop for the PS3 simply because it's too hard to do. It wouldn't bother me if they weren't so whiny and stubborn about it, but they just are. The funny bit about this is I don't really care about their games all that much since I already have Orange Box on PC.

There are a lot of games that improve upon the original concepts through sequels, I hear Assassins Creed 2 is a prime example of this, as is Uncharted 2 (and Fallout 3 when you think of Oblivion as the prequel :p). A lot of the downloadable games do this as well with the various tweaks like Warhawk, Bionic Commando Rearmed, and Noby Noby Boy, which they essentially re-released the game to do.

It sounds to me like Valve got bitten in the butt when they tried to outsource Orange Box to EA, and it turned out to be a piece of crap. That would certainly turn me off to the business of trying to output other games to the same platform.

Valve likes its own Steam platform so much, since it can drop as many updates as it wants. They seem a little fed up with Microsoft as well, limiting their updates and forcing them to make their content paid. (They still haven't released any class upgrades on XBox Live, as far as I am aware)
