The "inconceivability" of Smash is what makes it so fun. I haven't read the reviews in question (I don't generally read reviews, as a rule); were they implying that this detracted from the gameplay? From the story?
The crazy mish-mash of matchups you can play through - with all the different and varied characters - is a huge part of Smash's appeal. And now they've taken the concept and put it to a coherent story. Personally, I love it.
One was from Nintendo World Report. I don't remember (at the moment) the other review. They just thought that Sakurai was reaching too far to come up with character interactions, to the point of implausibility (distracting from the story, or at least indicative of a weakness to the story).
It's true there are a few weird pairups in SSE but only one of them actually bugs me cause it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever as to why one of the characters is even over there. I don't wanna spoil tho, I think its closer to around ~40% ish. You'll know what I'm talking about when you get there, it's just, I dunno, I felt they coulda done better with that character.
Everything else is 10/10 so far though, I just wish it wasn't during midterms week =( My GPA is soooo boned right now.
