Despite my intellectual objections to Islam, and my own misgivings about Muslim/Arab culture I have earned from dealing with them on a regular basis and having read both The Koran and The Hadith, I must admit that by living in a free and open society, placing any sort of identifying mark on someone to distinguish them is almost as bad and divisive as Political Correctness has become, if not worse.
The first thing I thought of when I heard "crescent on armbands" was the Star of David on armbands in Nazi Germany to identify Juden. Yes, I agree that Muslims in America could be a threat, but they must be treated on an individual basis, and we must give them the benefit of the doubt. Being aware, educated, and cautious must not give way to paranoia and oppression.
That would actually give them more of a reason to wage religious war upon us. At least now, the radicals only want to wage war to impose Islam and sha'ria (Islamic law) upon us. They don't have the added impetus of seeking to liberate their brethren from our oppressive yoke
The correct counterpoint for this line of thought is the suggestion that instead of getting all of one group together and branding them, just brand everyone else. If they don't have a smiley face on their forehead, then they are not to be trusted.
Ok, maybe it's not the correct counterpoint but it does make the insane person stop and think long enough so you can tie them up and take them to the proper authorities.

Thanks for sharing. I find it incredible that so many people were in favor of the DJ's "suggestions" -- and less than 60 years after WWII.
How soon we forget.

But I also wonder at this DJ saying such a thing in the first place. I suppose it made a point, but... it was a nasty way to do it.
