I can understand where Landon is coming from, but my feeling is you choose Hethor because of his naivete, he's the reluctant hero. And the other two books definitely flesh out your world.

I recently listened to Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth on audiobook. Talk about unsympathetic characters, our narrator is a kiss-ass coward.
