Steampunk blogging at Babel Clash is under way - Some worthwhile entries by three of us from yesterday.

We've Spent 5.93M Years Playing WoW...?!? - Um... Um... Amazing. No wonder I get a lot of writing done. I believe this speaker, Jane McGonigal, is addressing an upcoming OMSI Science Pub on this topic. (Thanks to lt260.)

Jane McGonigal is worth seeing. If you can go, go.

?otD: Well, last month is an abnormal sample as I bought Fallout: New Vegas and Risk: Factions with leftover Christmas money... I spent something like 100 hours between the two. Much less on writing, alas, even if you count the Day Job and blogging.

-- Steve participated briefly in the Alternate Reality Game community, of which Jane is a member. Memorable stuff happened.

?otD: How many hours did you play video or online games last month? How many hours did you spend writing?

I think the video/online games might actually be zero for last month! I finally started blocking all fb games, partly out of concern for my wrists (not that I played for long, just that I have a medical condition that using the computer makes worse) and partly because I realized there are more productive things (or even *fun* things) to do with my time.

As for writing, well, not much. I have two short-stories I started but never finished. On the other hand, I read a lot of books, while I could. That doesn't happen much during the semester; most of my time is taken up with speed-reading textbooks. For example, I spent about 3 1/2 hours yesterday reading 5 books of the Iliad for a class that was cancelled today.

Today I took almost 300 photos of the ice on things around campus though. Creative endeavors ftw! ...I did it during a cancelled class-period (not the one I'm reading the Iliad for, although that one was cancelled too).

I don't play video or online games, except for a round of solitaire occasionally to keep my fingers busy while I'm thinking.

But I have enough other timesinks that I don't need them [sigh].
