Well I just won my 3rd 1st prize in succession at my local Writer's Circle, this latest competition being professionally externally judged. I've now won for poetry, prose and a play, and some of my competitors have been professional full-time writers.
Whilst it might not be a Hugo, it's a solid foundation to build upon. I plan to continually trade up to a bigger External Validation Fairy as I go along. So maybe... in a few years time...
