I'm a sucker for epic tales, I will most assuredly try this
series out. Though usually it is the style of writing itself
that keeps me hooked or lets me go.

Writing style is usually the largest deterrent that prevents me from reading a lot of Epic Fantasy. Writing and Tolkien-esque elements. That's why I saw so drawn to Sanderson when Elantris was first released: his writing was very absorbing and there were no wizard, elves, or dwarves.

I recommend you give this one a try! :)
