Facebook and marketing

Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, Yammer, Twitter, Tagged, and on and on plus Social Influence Marketing for companies trying to advertise "where we are." Do you think there will be a point (for Facebook in particular) where the marketing saturation will cause people to abandon the social network?

It would be like swimming in a polluted lake. People will swim ashore and look elsewhere.

Yes. I'm already up to my ears in people knowing where I am. Especially high school friends and a bad ex. The only reason why I haven't deleted my MySpace account is because I need it for work.

Ooooh...light bulb. Maybe I can just delete it and start a new account that is totally not associated with me at all? *walks off to simmer on it*

Oh yeah, and where did you get your fancy new theme? I think I need to change mine up so that tags show up on each entry. I'm a non-paying old user, if that matters.

I'm not sure if the new layout is for paying members or not (I am...though it truly doesn't offer much more than the free account, I am sad to say. You get more space for pics, but the upload and manage tools are for crap, so why would a person use this instead of Photobucket or Flicker? There's a few other minuscule perks, but all in all...they need to up the value prop for being a member). In any case, when you go into the manage > customize sections you can then look at themes. I did a show "all available to me" and then scrolled all the way to the bottom and browsed backward. That way I mostly skipped stuff I'd seen. I like this one because the tag cloud is on the right and is in a larger font than most of the other layouts. I also liked this one because it is the most liquid. The majority of layouts have visual blocks that don't change with the screen size or any content that you've uploaded. I hate it when I upload a photo and it is set to the side and overlaps the color blocks. Looks crappy, but the design isn't liquid, so ( ... )
