We're getting pretty tired of the constant rain here, I can tell you. And since our little jaunt last week-end when our friend from Madrid was visiting, both of us are having a little back trouble, but other than that, things are going pretty well in Hertfordshire! I've got a nice bit of pork belly slow-roasting in the oven, which is smelling really lovely now, and we're going to Chichester tomorrow to pick up a piece of art glass I bought and see the cathedral there, so that's some good stuff to ponder as well.
As a teenager, I loved summer, swimming, staying out late, and so on. When I became an adult, summer stopped being fun. It was something to endure on the way home from work at the hottest part of the day. My free time was spent mowing lawns, watering plants, and sweating.
Then I read this by Miss Expatria, about reclaiming summer. Now that I am retired, I have time for fun stuff, and by God, I'm gonna do it!
My husband and I went swimming not once but TWICE this week, at the beach I swam at all through my teenage years. We are planning a BBQ at the beach very soon. I'm getting a tan for the first time in 30 years. I've made gazpacho three times this summer and iced tea about 20 times. I sit outside late on warm evenings, drinking wine and listening to jazz. I planted a garden. I'm going to have guests over to watch the Perseids Meteor shower in August.
It's hard to get used to being retired and having FUN again, but I'm learning fast!
That is really awesome. Good on you for reclaiming summer and getting out there to do some of the things you love. Swimming sounds wonderful and I personally love the beach. I'm glad that you're doing stuff you enjoy now that you have time! It seems such a simple concept that most of us simply do not get... enjoy life! So good on you! That is awesome.
I'm not feeling too chatty, either, but I heard the following song this morning and decided I wanted to share it on your LJ! (But maybe you made a separate post for songs? If so, erp. Sorry.)

Things should be going marvelously well if one only looks at the surface, but yesterday dealt me something that will put all of that in jeopardy.
Can't say anymore in a public forum.
