New Jaspi Arts and State of the Fennec (Early Oct 2010)

New Arts (SFW!) up on FA

So I finally got around to uploading the pic of Jaspi in his full (new) showcostume that was the logo for the defunct FWA Equinox Party and subsequent poorly-attended Carnival Party.

It's another portrait by
  moodyferret
that depicts Jas with the purple feathers, while looking delicious and sippin a cocktail.

This costume's prettier and more elaborate than the first one, and Moody did a good job of getting the nuances of the costume, but she forgot the pheasant and peacock feathers in the tail... or perhaps she didn't have time. Oh well. Its still a beautiful and brilliant piece.

Jobs Jobs Jobs..

My workplace is starting to become a little unpleasant. I'm thinking my current company won't survive the next year. Started contacting employment agencies. This is nice - for those of you who've not tried them, they're basically slaves who pass your resume around and look at job prospects, then set up interviews for you. Its pretty nice, although they can be a bit pushy.

I'm also interviewing at another place off to the side for a part-time position. This will help me finance my ridiculous obsession with commissioning my fursona, but will also act as an alternate source of income in case my company goes bust.

The Ticket
I got a traffic ticket about a week ago, under completely bullshit circumstances. My opinion of cops right now is at an all-time low. Whenever I got tickets before, I had always done what the cop said that I had done that was illegal. Of course I always thought that they were being nitpicky and unfair, but I had still done what they'd said. This time, it was a complete lie. He pulled me over for drunk driving - when I hadn't had anything to drink in days. I was clearly perfectly sober, yet he kept asking "How much have you had to drink tonight?" "What did you have to drink tonight?" "Have you been drinking?" Finally I lost my temper with him and told him, "It doesn't matter how many times you ask, it's not going to change the fact that I've had nothing to drink AT ALL tonight". So he said "Well, I pulled you over for drifting over lines." To which I answered "I find that highly unlikely" ... see... I saw the cop pull out behind me, and the headlights of a police cruiser are fairly distinct. I knew he was following me (which he did for -miles- clearly stalking me in order to pull me over). So I was driving like it was a test. I knew that I had never crossed the lines. On top of this, I wasn't drunk, high, rolling, or tripping, I wasn't drowsy and I didn't even have any caffeine in my system. The car stereo wasn't even on.

He asked "So you're calling me a liar?" This is a singularly inappropriate question for a police officer to ask, as it injects emotions into a completely objective discussion. Now I had the choice of backpedaling and lying myself, or calling the cop out. These are poor choices, so I tried to weasel out and come up with a plausible excuse for  the scumbag to save face, but he wouldn't listen, and tried to intimidate me shouting "Are you calling me a liar?!" I refuse to be intimidated, and nothing disgusts me more than a bully, so I answered calmly, "Yes." and just to make sure that there was no miscommunication, I reiterated "I am calling you a liar." He literally reeled at this. I wish a semi had been passing at the time because he practically fell back into the street. (It makes me wonder if maybe *he* was drunk!). After this he made me wait forever to get the ticket, then practically threw it at me. The fine was so small that he must've known it would fall apart under scrutiny, and therefore he gave it to me with the small fine in the hopes that I wouldn't appeal it.

Not only am I appealing it, even though its hardly worth my time, I am filing harassment and intimidation complaints with his supervisors. Good job, asshole cop. I hope they keep your Christmas bonus, you fucktard. And I hope I broke your psyche with my disrespect for you.

Facebook crap
So I got blocked from Facebook this week too - not from anything I did wrong. This time it was because I downloaded the new FB App on my Android phone. The next time I signed in on the computer it said "Suspicious Login Detected! at 2:01 pm blah blah blah". This isn't so bad in itself. Its nice to see that they're trying to be fairly secure. The problem is that I had to "re-activate" my FB account, and to prove that I really am Jaspian, they made me connect people's names with their FB photos. I had to get seven correct in a row or be locked out again for another hour. This is a completely stupid security measure - especially for furs.

First off, many people have their real names as their FB ID but furry pictures as their photos. Sometimes I know their furname, sometimes I'd know their face. Some people just put up generic pictures of animals.... that's not helpful. Some people put up lowlight pictures of them at raves, or blurry pics, or pics of the back of their heads as they look out over some sprawling scene. Some people put up pictures of their pets, or cartoons of themselves, or IMVU or The Sims or Yahoo Games depictions of themselves.... Pictures of computers with no people in them.... and I have to get SEVEN correct? In a ROW?

Oh my god if someone like Lady Gaga had this problem, she'd be fucked. Like her (but to a far lesser degree) I have fans who I "friend" so that they can get my updates... but I don't know who they are. For these I just had to guess and hope I got lucky. Finally, after almost a week, I managed to luck out and get back on Facebook. Whoever came up with this feature ought to be fired.

And that's it! Hope you enjoyed reading my update. Have a good long weekend!
