Lack of courage is the big one that usually keeps people in their dead-end jobs.
Skills are easy to attain once you have courage, and as for direction, you can change direction many times. As long as the direction you're pointing in is better or more fulfilling than your current job, then it's worth the leap.
These days, a part or in whole any number of these elements:
- Lack of respect (from me or for me) - Lack of stability in the company - Lack of structure on the team - Bad time management and scheduling on projects - Oppressive egos of co-workers - Lack of vision in what we are creating
