I've been reading over some old live journal entries. It's hard to believe I've only been here for four years, it feels like my whole life. I wish it had been longer because then I would have lost less when my old journal was destroyed. But even four years ago, I was a different Jari. We are who we are, my friend; and each day, we awake as the newest manifestation of the culmination of our own individual histories. That's why it's not only important to know where we are and where we're going, but it's equally significant to remember where we've been and what we have done to get ourselves to this point. You can always learn from the mistakes and successes of the past, but I feel that the most important reason to become familiar with history (your own and the world's) is so that you can fully understand and appreciate the way things change through time, so as to be better prepared when changes happen. I think those who say that "history is destined to repeat itself" don't know what the hell they're talking about (whether they're coming from something like the Hopi circular-time worldview or just spouting clichés). I see all of history as being unique, dependent upon cultural, social, environmental circumstances, etc. History allows us a look at human behavior and cultural evolution in a myriad of different ( ... )

Yeah, I agree, Des Cartes was a fool. :-3 Suriously, though, I dun think history repeats itself. At all. I think history teachers made up that saying and attributed it to him! It's a deep, dark conspiracy, and I'm sure aliens are involved somewhere!
