Sorry, I'm too tired to break it up into coherant paragraphs....

My parent's computer blew up a week ago. This has been a big struggle with me, because I feel responsible for its breakage, and thus that it's my responsibility to fix it. By buying a new computer (what I should have done in the first place). This sits uneasily with me because doing so would require using up my entire college savings. I also felt, ( Read more... )

It's barrettes. And I suggest you get someone else to replace the motherboard so that your static cling doesn't fry it. =P

7 years of working on computers without a problem. Then again the place I worked in didn't have carpet on the floor. But I always touched something metal before working on a computer. I did have a few computers reboot though upon discharging a static shock. If I know a carpet in the office I was at working on the computer built up static charge. I would dishcarge myself to a metal chair or something. WOrked out just fine.

I always ground myself on the case and usually something else in the room, too. But I think this motherboard problem was pre-existing. And either way, I have an internal magnetism problem that allows me to fry susceptible components like hard drives, CPUs, watches, compasses, and especially floppy disks by proximity. Anyone who has known me for long iRL can attest to it.
