I am noticing that I have put "welcome to my madness" at the top of the page. It would seem however that for whatever reason I have become introverted in regards to LJ. I mean, Patrick has this awesome huge and epic plot. He has definitely gotten across to the characters that this is of urgent importance and generally relevant to their interests. However, this also means that we can never just sit down and talk in-character. Our characters have been traveling together and fighting together for a while now, and still only barely know each other as a result.
I wouldn't attribute a lack of deep character stuff on your part to your lack of acting skills. I would say that you just haven't had an opportunity because we're in a plot-centered RP and not necessarily a character-centered one.
This has been on my mind, too, because Brian and I were discussing it on the way back. I've been musing about it a bit.

Of course I would blame it on my acting because that is always a bit akward for me. Knowing and understanding the way I come across to others is as much a mystery to me as babies are to you! ^_^ And of course how good anyone is at acting depends totally on the way others percieve what they are doing.
ANYHOW... maybe I can suggest a bit more character time and see what happens. Although Patrick does tend to have plot centered campaigns anyhow, it seems to me that 4th ed leans towards them. Maybe that's why he likes this edition so much.

It's not that the plot is somehow insufficient. It's that the sheer epic urgency of it is overshadowing other things that we could be getting out of our campaign and party dynamic.

And yes, an occasional break from reality is good! That's why I love D&D so much.
