YES to all of this! Loved the X-Files and so shipped Scully/Moulder. It's weird, but I feel like I won't be able to pinpoint when I became a fangurl, because I think I've ALWAYS been one...

I think the X-Files are widely regarded as the start of the "shipping" usage, anyway - from Mulder and Scully Relationship.

OMG, who DOESN'T love Bender when they first see TBC? I sure did! (And I thought Emilio Estevez was an idiot. This opinion has not changed.)

You had an AWESOME job, being required to watch tapes of new shows!

I somehow missed seeing a single episode of the X-Files. 0_o I've heard universally wonderful things about it so I really have to rectify this one day.

...and I did the exact same thing in my teen years (also early 80s, incidentally)! There were a whole bunch of movies/TV shows etc. that I re-wrote in my head. It took another 15 years or so until I translated that to actually writing things down. I think if the Internet had been around in those days I would have started a lot sooner.
