I thought of this idea while talking to dreams, and decided we're going to do an Advent Calendar event! [So that we have a good motivator to push us to write.] So from now till January 1, we're going to all try to do as many little prizes for each other as possible. Prompt for DAY 14 [December 27]: Strength

Oh yes, Japan knew what strength meant. Strength was what China had when he raised his voice in UN meetings and stood up for himself. Strength was what China had when he continued to keep up his break-neck pace of modernization, dragging as many nations as he could up with him, Japan included. Strength was what China had when he leapt into battle with wok and ladle and, oh hell, an actual sword. Strength was what China had with the dragon’s roar came out soon after, the battle cry of a too-old nation who had seen too much.

But the biggest display of strength was when Japan and China met, after WWII, to sign the Sino-Japanese friendship treaty, and despite his bruises and scars and bitterness, China held his head up and smiled for Japan.

Yes, Japan knew what strength meant. The real question was, when did Japan have it?
