Making an evacuation bag, srs bzns

an update:  They're implementing power and water-rationing where I am in order to move power and water to the northern regions.  :(   Also, the poor survivors up north have no food, no electricity, and NO WATER.  Rescuers can't even GET to them, as the roads are gone, the boats are gone, and 4 entire trains are missing, no sign of them.

Okay, if ( Read more... )

I agree with the swiss army knife comments. Also add some strong work gloves to protect the hands against debris, duct-tape (all purpose material) basic first aid kit, super glue (fix things and you), plastic wrap and ziplock bags (One to make a shelter with the other to carry items or food in).

When things settle down and normality returns, go to Cabelas.com and look for their camping and survival supplies.

I'm glad you are safe. As soon as heard about the disaster, you were in my thoughts and prayers

Hi there! Can I say your latest entry of "no one gets arrested" had me laughing out loud? XD I've enjoyed reading your entries about your teaching, and the students. I really admire what you're doing, and going for your Master's is awesome, it will open up more doors.

Anyway -- awesome suggestions, and thank you for the link! *HUGS*

LOL Hey, I just realized your response was sitting in my ibox. (stupid bird)

*blushes* thank you. I have always liked working with prisoners, it's something that just works for me.

I hope the Master's turns out. I have a bunch of undergrad work to do to.

I am glad that you and your's have been ok over there. Thought about you often.

Thank you! It's been really nice to have you and everybody else come here and leave comments. I hardly leave comments anywhere anymore, even though I try to keep up, it's RL issues and such. But I definitely wanted to thank you for stopping by and giving me your ideas and support, I really appreciate it. ♥

I've heard of Leatherman, several people on a different forum have recommended them. I don't know if I can get one here, but I'll look. I got your message, those will be fine! Thank you, dear!

great suggestions, thank you! I've seen the firestarters, is that what you're talking about? Where you strike the two pieces together and they make a spark? I need to get a whistle, the one I have only a DOG would hear, and they don't have dogs really. :( But the wind-up flashlight is awesome, I've never heard of those. I'll check out that link, thank you!

{hugs} I'm glad you're okay.

I know folk recommended food but it's actually something you can go without for days/weeks. Water is essential. Pack in some vitamins and a first aid kit with antibiotics. Form of identification and family/friend contact info--an old practice was to write your information on your arm/body in permanent marker.

Others have already voiced good suggestions.

Vitamins, now that's a good idea! I figured I'd have my passport and DL with me. The permanent marker idea is a bit gruesome, but accurate. I used to have dog tags, but no idea where they are. And if I were swept away, it's not like they'd stay on my body anyway. :( They just rescued an old man who had been swept 10 miles out to sea, and he had drunk the last of the liquid he had, and had somewhere, somehow, found a pen and paper, and had written his info on it in case he didn't make it. Thank heaven he did, what a survivor!

Some of those old folk are surprisingly durable; some may be in better health than me. {g}

Seriously, it sounds like you're making good decisions, and I'll pray you stay safe!
